The news announced today that the General Assembly (Scottish church parliament, effectively) are allowing gay ministers.
My dad, who was there, and was quoted in the article, has informed me that this is complete horse shit.
The policy is actually that individual congregations will now vote in advance (long before a minister is chosen) whether they will or will not take non-hetero preachers.
This gets complicated for situations like my dad’s, where the congregations are linked. He’s almost certain that one of his would vote for and one against- and since they both have to have the same minister, they would have to go with a straight one.
What’s more, there are a grand total of about 6-8 out ministers in the country, and about 600 out straight. So the churches are now picking whether they want one of the 6-8 in future over the rest.
So this is very far from a definite allowing.
